A Two-Part Celebration of Homeland: My Father Dreams Of Palestine By Hannah Moushabeck and In This Family By Shelly Anand!
Charis is excited to welcome local author Shelly Anand in conversation with author and publisher, Hannah Moushabeck for a two-part celebration of their work and a discussion of the current politics of publishing and Palestinian solidarity.
Part one--is from 1:30-2:15 pm and is an in-person only story hour geared towards children 4-10 years old. Shelly Anand will read from her new picture book In This Family and Hannah Moushabeck will read: Homeland: My Father Dreams of Palestine. After the reading, there will be time for kids to get their books signed and say hello to the authors before we transition into the second part of the event.
Part two--2:30-3:30 pm is an in-person and virtual conversation geared towards adults who are interested in how children's authors and publishers are navigating the politics of writing and publishing in a time of solidarity with Palestine. This portion of the conversation will be moderated by educator and author, Gayatri Sethi. This event is co-sponsored by the Refaat Mobile Library, a traveling volunteer-run liberation library in Atlanta created in honor of martyred Palestinian poet & professor Refaat Alareer.
Greensboro Bound Literary Festival
Join children's book author Shelly Anand in a read along of her book I LOVE MY BODY BECAUSE. I LOVE MY BODY BECAUSE: Everybody has a body and every body is good. Your body takes you where you want to go. Your body is your first home. And your body is different from everyone else’s body! I Love My Body Because is a gentle and poetic picture book for the youngest readers about celebrating your own body and all the different, wonderful bodies that make up our world. Shelly's presentation will be followed by a "how-to" from Ready for Learning, Ready for Life on how to make reading fun and engaging for your kids.

Charis welcomes author Thenmozhi Soundararajan in conversation with Atlanta writers and activists: Shelly Anand (I Love My Body Because, Laxmi's Mooch), Anjali Enjeti (Southbound,The Parted Earth), and Gayatri Sethi (Unbelonging) for a celebration of her groundbreaking new work, The Trauma of Caste: A Dalit Feminist Meditation on Survivorship, Healing, and Abolition. This event is co-sponsored by Raksha. Raksha, Inc is a Georgia-based nonprofit with a mission to promote a stronger and healthier South Asian community through confidential support services, education, and advocacy. Raksha works towards healing, empowerment, and justice for survivors of violence.

Little Shop Event
Join us at Little Shop on Tuesday, June 21st at 5pm! To start the event, Shelly & Nomi will read aloud I Love My Body Because. Then, Little Shop will host a discussion with Shelly & Nomi; they'll discuss writing together & the origin of their book. Best of all, Shelly & Nomi will share how to love your body, and they'll answer audience questions!
Afterwards, there will be a signing line. Shelly & Nomi will sign copies of their books, and they can even personalize it for you!
